| 1080/24p | Most movies are filmed at 24 frames per second, and Blu-ray Disc™ movies are mastered at 24 frame per second, so in order to view the film as the director intended a Blu-ray Player that can output films at 1080/24p is required to give a true cinema-like experience at home. |
| BD (Blu-ray Disc™) | A high definition format used for high definition video and audio storage. The Blu-ray Disc (BD) system uses a blue (violet) laser operating at a wavelength of 405 nm, similar to the one used for HD DVD, to read and write data. BD differs from HD-DVD in that Blu-ray technology allows interactive capabilities, internet integration, usage control and enforcement, and even in the degree to which their specifications are fixed. Blu-ray HD content is protected by the Advanced Access Content System (AACS) a standard for content distribution and digital rights management, high-definition video. Storage capacity: 50GB (dual layer). |
| CD | Use red and infrared lasers at 780 nm. |
| DVD | Digital Versatile Disc is an optical disc storage media format used for video and data storage. They are the same size as CDs but hold more than 6 times as much data. Sometimes now given the acronym SD-DVD (standard definition DVD). DVD uses a red laser with a wavelength of 650 nm. Storage capacity ??? |
| DVD-ROM | Holds data which can only be read (read only memory). |
| DVD-R/DVD+R | Can only be used to record data once. They then function as DVD-ROMs. |
| DVD-RW/DVD+RW | Can only be used to record data once. They then function as DVD-ROMs. |
| DVD-RW/DVD+RW | Can record and delete data multiple times (read & write). |
