Blu-ray & HD Technology Explained

blu ray

The Blu-ray format uses a blue laser to read the data on the disc much the same as HD-DVD. The difference is in the structure of the media itself. A Blu-ray disc is able to hold much more data than a HD-DVD hence they can store significantly more detail for images and sounds i.e. high definition. The result is sharper pictures, deeper colours, amazing visual and sound effects.

In order to experience full high definition (1080p resolution) you need a full high definition TV, a high definition video source e.g. a Blu-ray disc player or PlayStation3 and connect them using a special cable which carries high definition images and sound.

Why upgrade from DVD to Blu-ray

As well as a far superior in-home movie experiene Blu-ray format will eventually replace DVD. There is now a large catalogue of movies available with many studios discontinuing their support for HD-DVD. The HD DVD format was not good enough for some films such as the three Godfather movies as the format compromised the visual and sound effects. On Blu-ray the film is seen with all it's glorious, original effects.
